Just Being Angie,

A post all about me, and a podcast episode too?! But, believe it or not, I don’t like a lot of attention. I think I’ve given myself so much of it, that any more is overkill. As much as I make March about me, only a few people really dote on me. I’m perfectly fine with that and even that can be overwhelming.

Over the last few months, I’ve kinda been in the spotlight or on the hot seat. I’m normally pretty reserved and chill. Just a glance at my socials will only tell you a few things about me. I tend to keep everything else private. So for Ronald Richardson and Eric Lewis to want to interview me solo dolo, it was very different for me. I am also not the type to request to do interviews on other people platforms. I don’t mind doing the interviewing but to be interviewed feels foreign to me. I feel like most people do interviews to bring eyes and attention to what they are selling and since I’m not selling anything, it makes no sense, to me. I understand the idea of getting your name or brand in front of different audiences though. It’s just not my thing. I also wouldn’t turn it down if it happened more, but I wouldn’t initiate it or force it.

Then my good friend DJ decided that he would add to this new wave and interview me on the Sincerely Angie Podcast. He had about 30 questions to ask me. He said that I always shy away from topics when I am talking with people on the podcast, so he wanted to go a little deeper and get some answers to questions the people may have. He touched on a few topics, from personal to professional for my thoughts and opinions.

Throughout the 3 recent interviews, I was just being me. Not selling anything, just sharing a bit of me and my mind, with whomever will listen. I hope that you’ll enjoy and learn something new. The interviews with Ron Rich and Eric Lewis as well as this weeks podcast episode, are listed below. Thanks in advance for listening and getting to know me a little more.

Love is…

Love is beautiful. The word love is all encompassing. It’s so broad but so simple. Psychologists have come to define love in a few different categories. A quick Google search can summarize it for you, but to quickly note it in this post, here are the components and types of love. Three components of love are intimacy, passion and commitment. Three Greek types of love are Eros, Philia and Agape. And love can be seen in three types of relationships, romantic, familial and friendship.

God is love and God’s love is the agape kind. The highest form of love, unconditional and selfless.

I do think that love is taught. Whether it’s taught in how it’s shown or learned from what’s not shown. I unfortunately learned from the latter. I knew what I hadn’t received and I knew that different and better was out there. I was able to test it out in my first real relationship at 19 years old.

Oddly enough, I was able to sit down with my first boyfriend recently and we chatted about our past and who and what I was to him back then. It was a blessing to hear what I did at 19 years old after not being taught or shown love. I guess it was just God given, so it was just in me.

I’m glad that over the years I’ve been able to still operate in love despite not receiving it in return. I love love and love will always be the thing that I want to lead with. I pray that the world could/will follow suit because love is truly beautiful. Love makes everything better. When you finds God’s love, self-love should follow and the love for you neighbor can and will come easily.

Memory Lane: Do y’all remember this song?

“The word “love” is a hell of a word to be sayin’. If you don’t know how to use it with caution,
it’s a death-defying game to play. And when you’re thinking of, the one you want to get next to, make sure it’s a mutual feeling…” -Take Your Time -Mo Thugs

I used to sing that song word for word when I was younger. I haven’t heard it in decades but the lyrics always come to mind. So I had to go find it on Youtube. LOL!

Happy Valentine’s day Lovers,

How I’m Starting My Mornings

Post originally written 10/26/2023

I was listening to a podcast (Blessed and Bossed Up) the other day and the
host talked about 5 steps to take, to start your mornings and how to focus. That
got me to thinking about what I could do in the morning to be more intentional with
my time with God and my gratitude. I started to picture in my mind what was
feasible for me in the morning.

First thing I tend to do is look over at my clock to see the time and then
let my baby Rockie out to do his thang. Depending on the time, I will grab my
phone and swipe through the notifications. Then I realize that I hadn’t thanked
God yet and put it down to give thanks. I usually have a text message waiting
for me with a inspirational/motivational video, so I lay with my eyes closed
and listen to that. Then I get up and start my day, that’s if I don’t fall back off to
sleep.

There was no intentionality to the start of my days at all. Also, the other
day I saw a video where someone was saying to laugh for 20 seconds when you
wake up to set your mind to happy. They named a few other things but I forgot
what they were. I took this as a sign that I needed to change my morning
routine.

This is what comes to mind for me. When I wake up, the first thing I do is open my eyes so the first thing that comes to mind is to be grateful for another day and the gift of sight. The second thing is to sit up or switch positions so that it’s a little harder to fall back asleep. Thirdly, be still. Fourthly, give thanks and speak affirmations to myself and for the day. Fifthly, find a scripture to study/meditate on for the day. Ex. “This is the day that the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it!” Lastly, get up and stretch.

  • See Opening your eyes to see the gifts before you. The gift of sight, the roof over your head, your bed, the electricity is on and you have breath in your body. Just to name a few.
  • Sit up or switch positions Prepare your mind and body to wake up fully to start your day.
  • Stillness Be still. No TV, no phone, no distractions. Just take a moment to breathe.
  • Say/Speak Give thanks for the new day that you were blessed with. Speak positive words, thoughts and affirmations for the day.
  • Scripture Meditate on a scripture for the day or think of a positive word to speak to yourself and others throughout the day.
  • Stretch Stand up and stretch out your arms to heaven, expand your chest, take deep breaths, bend over and touch your toes. Loosen those muscles.

This blueprint may not be meant for everyone but it’s helping me and hopefully it can help you. Just as I was motivated based on the podcast I heard, you too can be motivated. Alter these steps to your liking. Happy grateful, thankful and positive mornings!

Sincerely,

Angie
