Giving Thanks

Today is a great day to brag on life aka, give thanks. My life is far from perfect and it’s not without flaws and faults. I just choose to be thankful for the past and the present for the gifts that they are. I am certain that the future is bright and I am thankful for that also.

2023 isn’t over yet but this has been a really great challenging year. I can’t believe how much I have changed and grown. This is my last year in my 30’s and while I don’t have many physical or tangible items to mark what I would deem a successful decade, this year alone, I have some really great memories. I went from not traveling since 2021 to taking 4 trips this year alone. That is a record for me. I went to Pittsburg, St. Louis, New York and finished my traveling off with Dubai!

I learned a lot more about peace and how to pursue it (blog post coming soon). A peace of mind is probably the greatest accomplishment I am achieving. I received my very own puppy, Rockie, this year for Mother’s Day. What a treat and challenge that has been. It’s beautiful and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I gave blood for the first time this year and It felt so good to do so. I went to my very first gospel concert (It’s Time Tour) and I went solo! I went to top golf, go carting and axe throwing for the first time. I made my own perfume, received queen treatment for my birthday month, tried a slew of new restaurants and even the Dinner in the Sky whilst in Dubai.

This is definitely not my end of the year recap, this is just a right now and in the moment opportunity to give thanks. I am so grateful for my life and the people in it. The things I named above are just the events and not the actual stories behind them. For example, my baby Rockie was a gift from my cousin. She gave him to me so that I could celebrate Mother’s day. That is one of the greatest gestures that anyone has ever done for me. The 3 trips I took in June, July and August, were essentially free trips. I paid about $300 out of pocket in total for them and that was really due to me shopping or gambling, LOL! That’s a real blessing! Dubai was because I am always down to travel and I basically invited myself when I saw the opportunity. Thank God my cousin received it well and was okay with me joining her on the trip. It was such an eye opening experience. Lastly, my dear best friend who was willing and able to attend nearly every event in March for my birthday with me! I am so very blessed!

As I stated before, I love my life. I am so blessed beyond measure and I am so grateful and thankful to God for each and every day! I am so happy to be me and so truly blessed for the life I have. I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Sincerely,

The Journey of Her

Beauty is in the eye of the owner and beholder

And God already broke the mold of her.

Through it all she will remain a bold her.

Sometimes all she wanted was for someone to hold her,

Instead she got a cold shoulder.

Although she has the exterior of a boulder,

She bares the softness of a flower in the soul of her.

Dare she crave love and affection or they’ll scold her.

If they ever see her sweat, they’ll troll her.

Fact is, they won’t ever break or fold her.

Fearfully and wonderfully made is what HE told her.

Believing anything less is the old her.

This new version is the gold her.

And through it all, her heart smiles, because she never sold her.

My Method for Saving pt.2

March 9, 2017 was when I posted part one. I have posted many other blog posts and podcast episodes since then on how to save but part one has been the most popular. Since then, I have tweaked a few things. While writing this post I went back and read that post, I see that I will have to revisit a thing or two. I hope that part two will be as short and to the point as the first.

A lot has changed in 4 years. Mostly everything is digital now. This could make it easier or harder for some people to save. No worries, I hope my suggestions will help you out. First things first,

  • Open a savings account if you don’t have one already. Try to find an account that is high interest yielding (An account that will pay you a higher interest rate than a normal savings account for your money sitting in the bank).
  • Do an evaluation of your finances so that you’ll know realistically how much you can potentially save. (Calculate your income minus your bills, to determine how much is left over)
  • Set a goal. (Try to save $100 for the week, pay period or month)
  • Try doing a money challenge to get your savings ball rolling. (i.e. 52 week money challenge or $5 challenge)
  • Cut out unnecessary spending. (Take a break from coffee shops, fast food restaurants, shopping for a while)
  • Search online for class action lawsuits that may have affected you or unclaimed funds from the Treasury dept. (Once you get the check, put it into your savings account)
  • Fill out surveys or utilize cash back websites when shopping online. (They pay you for referrals also like Rakuten)
  • Redeem your cash back points for cash from your credit cards. (7,000 points could equate $50-$70cash depending on the company)
  • Transfer small amounts into your savings account randomly. (If your account has $443.76, transfer $3.76 or 43.76 into savings. Do that weekly or as often as you check your account.)
  • Use coupons when shopping for necessities (Put the amount you saved into your savings account. If using coupons caused you to save $15.88, put that amount into savings).
  • Put any change that’s laying around the house or in piggy banks/coke bottles (large amounts i.e. $50 worth) into the bank. (Cash them out at the coin machine and deposit the money into your savings account.)
  • Sell old clothes and/or shoes to a consignment shop or online and use the money you made to add to your savings account.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for monetary gifts for special events instead of gifts. (This unexpected money goes into savings)
  • Use the interest that you’ve earned on your savings account to achieve any additional money goals or to pay down debt.

Saving small is still saving. Don’t despise meager beginnings. These small gestures will create bigger gestures until saving is no longer foreign but a lifestyle for you. Check out my podcast, YouTube channel and other blog posts for even more savings tips.
